  • When searching for a book in the library catalogue (http://libcat.qut.edu.au), you have the option to search by: AUTHOR, AUTHOR AND TITLE, or TITLE
  • Use an AUTHOR search when there are multiple resources with the same title.e.g. Ethics
  • Use an AUTHOR AND TITLE search when both the author and title are common.e.g. Ethics by Healy
  • In most cases you can use a simple TITLE search.
  • YOUR TURN! Select a TITLE search.
  • YOUR TURN!
    1. Click in the search box
    2. Enter the title of the book below:
Beauchamp, T. L. & Bowie, N. E. (2004). Ethical theory and business. 7th ed. New York : Pearson Prentice Hall.
    3. Press ENTER
Hints: Remember, the title is the part of the reference in italics. In this demonstration, make sure you press ENTER rather than using a mouse click.
  • You are looking for Ethical theory and business
  • Note the year of publication. You want the latest edition (2004).
  • The library holds five copies of this book.
  • To locate the item in the library, you need to note the: ITEM LOCATION, CALL NUMBER, and STATUS
  • The ITEM LOCATION tells you which branch holds the item and which collection the item is held in.
  • The ITEM LOCATION is linked to a description which indicates where the collection is held.
  • A link to the floor plan is provided.
  • A CALL NUMBER is used to locate the item on the shelves within the library.
  • Full stops, spaces and slashes separate the different parts of the CALL NUMBER. These punctuation marks must be written down correctly in order to find the item on the shelf.
  • The STATUS indicates whether the book is available for loan.
  • IN LIBRARY means the item is available on the shelf.
  • Now, when you have a reference to a book, you should be able to search the library catalogue to locate it.
