Text transcript

  • You have the following article: Lippert-Rasmussen, K. (2001). Egalitarianism, option luck, and responsibility. Ethics, 111(3), 548-579.
  • You want to know if it was published in a refereed journal.
  • There are many ways of determining whether a journal is peer-reviewed.
  • One method is to search UlrichsWeb.com - a directory of periodicals. Let's watch a demonstration.
  • The library subscribes to UlrichsWeb.com on behalf of QUT staff and students, so it needs to be accessed via the Databases link on the library's Web page.
  • To access the database, you will be prompted to enter your QUT Access Username and password.
  • If you are confident that you know the exact title, select a Title (Exact) search.
  • Enter the title of the journal you want.
  • Note the symbol for refereed [a football referee's jersey] in the legend.
  • This symbol means Ethics is a refereed journal.
  • Clicking on the title will provide additional information about the journal.
  • Note the journal is refereed.
  • Note the journal is of a scholarly nature.
  • An alternative to searching UlrichsWeb.com is to examine the journal's: editorial policy; editorial board; instructions to authors; and description.
  • This information can be found either from the publisher's Web site, or in the opening pages of the hardcopy journal.
  • This is the Web page for Ethics. Reading the information available should indicate whether the periodical is refereed.
  • This information [in "Information for contributors"] suggests that articles are reviewed. [end]
